SALT LAKE CITY and PORTSMOUTH, N.H., Feb 8, 2002 -- IKANO Communications and its subsidiary, SISNA, utilizing Enterasys Networks (NYSE: ETS) technology, will provide wireless Internet access to the Governor's Mansion and the Devereaux House up to and during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.

The wireless solution will provide the fastest, high-speed Internet access available to guests attending functions and will help to enhance all events held at these locations. The Governor's Mansion will host visiting national and international dignitaries, while the Devereaux House, at the site of the Medals Plaza and the Salt Lake Ice Center, will serve as the central hospitality center for the State's business and economic development opportunities during the Games. Wireless Internet access will allow guests to follow the Games on-line via the official 2002 Olympic Winter Games website, obtain local transportation and ticketing information as well as the Governor's daily Olympic update from the State of Utah's Olympic site and take part in various web casts. Access to email and other web-enabled tools will enable guests to communicate with colleagues and family members while enjoying the State's Olympic activities.

Wireless connectivity allows users to access the Internet from anywhere within a network without being confined by the necessity of a phone plug. Users can move about the locations without losing their Internet connection. From meeting to meeting, outside or inside, Internet access will be available -- no strings, or wires, attached. In addition, Enterasys and SISNA staff will be on site for technical support.

"IKANO and SISNA are excited about this great opportunity," said Henry Smith, IKANO CEO. "IKANO is a supplier for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, and this will give IKANO and SISNA, two leading, Utah-based technology companies, additional opportunity to showcase their technologies to national and international visitors."

Based on the 802.11b wireless standard, Enterasys' RoamAbout wireless technology provides throughput speeds of up to 11 Mbps, anywhere from 10 to 20 times faster than DSL or cable modems, and offers 128-bit data encryption and additional features to provide the highest level of wireless security. Additionally, installation is faster and easier than with DSL or other high- speed access currently available.

"We have successfully provided the first high-speed wireless network available in the Salt Lake valley, and complimented that with the most extensive dial-up network in North America," said Smith. "Wireless delivers seamless, high-speed access to information anytime, anywhere."

Broadband fixed wireless utilizes radio frequency connected to a head-end and SISNA's infrastructure to provide high-speed (up to 11 Mbps) access to the Internet. Utilizing the 2.4 GHz unlicensed spectrum, micro-cells with access points in the center are utilized to provide service in a particular geographic area.

The advantages of fixed wireless are numerous, including the speed and ease of deployment, and the ease at which the network can be upgraded to accommodate more users. Additionally, the combination of IKANO and SISNA's network architecture and choice of equipment vendors allows for hardware upgrades of end-user equipment to utilize different spectrums, e.g. 5.7GHz unlicensed spectrum, or provide greater throughput to end-users as governed by the FCC. While mobile, fixed wireless should not be confused with cellular telephony as connections are affected by moving antennas and near line-of- sight requirements.

"We are delighted to work with IKANO Communications and SISNA to provide mobile Internet and email access to the Governor's Mansion and Devereaux House guests attending the Olympic Winter Games," said Kelly Gould, regional vice president, Enterasys Networks. "Our RoamAbout wireless technology empowers the Governor's visitors and guests of the Devereaux House with the flexibility to follow the Games while enjoying some of the State's off-site events. In addition, with Internet access and the ability to view any web-enabled sites, such as email, stock information and news services, users can remain connected to their professional and personal lives while enjoying the 2002 Olympic Winter Games."
