IKANO Press Releases:
Title: IKANO’S BrowseBlast Gets a Boost -
Independent Testing Proves BrowseBlast is Fastest Web Accelerator on the Market
Date: December 10th, 2003
For Release: IMMEDIATE
Salt Lake City – IKANO Communications, the largest provider of private-label Internet services, announces the release of BrowseBlast Version 3.0. BrowseBlast now delivers improved speeds, email compression, improved graphics quality, and a pop-up blocker.
BrowseBlast Web accelerator increases surfing speeds up to 6 times over a standard dial-up connection. A recent independent study by VeriTest showed that BrowseBlast (powered by SlipStream) is the fastest Web accelerator on the market.
BrowseBlast is offered to IKANO’s 400+ private-label Internet service clients, enabling them to boost subscriber adoption, increase customer satisfaction and reduce customer churn by offering this valuable new service to their subscribers. BrowseBlast is a subscription-based service available to Internet users via IKANO’s Internet Service Provider Web sites.
"BrowseBlast has proven to be a cost efficient alternative to DSL,” said Henry Smith, IKANO President and CEO. “And now the release of Version 3.0 further solidifies BrowseBlast’s position as the fastest Web Accelerator on the market.”
Proof of Performance: The VeriTest Independent Study
According to the independent testing performed by VeriTest, BrowseBlast (powered by SlipStream) is the clear victor in the Web acceleration arena. Compared to Propel, BrowseBlast accessed first web pages over 33 percent faster and improved average download times by over 10 percent. BrowseBlast compressed text components of Web pages by an average of 5.9 times. VeriTest used a standard 56k dial-up connection and browsed to 30 common web pages with an unaccelerated connection, a connection accelerated by Propel, and a connection accelerated by the BrowseBlast Web Accelerator.
BrowseBlast Enhancements:
Improved Performance of Between 20-25%
With the use of new server upgrades and improved compression methodologies, BrowseBlast has improved the browsing experience even further.
Improved Graphics Quality and Smaller File Sizes
Smaller files lead to faster transmissions. Web pages will display even faster than before.
New POP3/SMTP Email Compression Including Attachments
Just like it does with the users Internet browser, BrowseBlast will seamlessly launch when mail applications such as Microsoft Outlook Express and Netscape Messenger are opened. Then, using the same compression technology that accelerates web page browsing, BrowseBlast will speed the transmission of e-mail and attached files. Please note BrowseBlast will not compress photo attachments.
Support for Compression Attachments with Web Based E-mail Applications
Not only will customers who use web-based mail clients such as Webmail and those supplied by free e-mail address providers like Yahoo! and Hotmail see improvements in the time it takes to display the page, they will also experience faster sending of messages with attachments.
New Pop-Up Blocker
Pop-up advertisements are a common annoyance because of their disruptive nature and their drain on bandwidth. With BrowseBlast’s new Pop-up Blocker feature, customers will have a faster, more enjoyable browsing experience.
Changes to the User Interface
Users controls have been updated to reflect the changes in features. A new menu containing the Pop-up Blocker controls has been added as well as updates to the existing Settings menu to allow users better control over graphics and to alter the POP3/SMTP acceleration settings.
