IKANO Press Releases:
Title: IKANO ANNOUNCES OWNERSHIP OF NATIONWIDE CANADIAN NETWORK
Date: January 4, 2001
For Release: IMMEDIATE
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- IKANO Communications, the market-leading IP network infrastructure company and provider of branded Internet services, announced today that it has opened a Canadian office in Toronto, Ontario. The new office includes a new Network Operations Center (NOC), and will allow IKANO to offer nationwide Canadian access via the largest, wholly owned independent network in Canada.
IKANO's new Canadian operations will enable connectivity in seven provinces throughout Canada via 100 points of presence (POPs). These POPs cover more than 60 percent of the current Canadian population.
IKANO's Canadian NOC provides redundant fiber connections with high network availability supplied by multiple carriers with the Internet's largest bandwidth capacities. Clients can select the connectivity and bandwidth needed to meet their needs.
IKANO provides best-of-breed technology at the NOC including filtered power, Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), backup power generators and HVAC cooling systems. These items ensure high network availability. Data backup is performed daily and all systems are monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year by experienced, certified engineers, ensuring 99.9% uptime.
"The Canadian office expands IKANO's solely-owned geographic reach into Canada, enabling us to provide broader Internet access for our US-based and International branded partners and end-users,"
said Henry Smith, IKANO president and CEO. "It will also allow for further expansion into Canada, where IKANO will offer world-class network infrastructure and turnkey branded Internet services."
IKANO will utilize the Canadian POPs to offer wholesale dial-up Internet access to its current clients and other Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in several Canadian provinces. IKANO's clients will be able to take advantage of the Canadian Internet backbone infrastructure by transparently connecting their users to IKANO's expanded network. ISPs then can instantly broaden their capacity and increase their coverage without the added costs of installing and maintaining new POPs, switches and access lines. This means that both clients and ISP subscribers can dial into IKANO's Canadian POPs, while the branded partner or ISP appears to be the access provider.
