Title: KOA Teams With HOTSPOTZZ To Offer High-Speed Wireless Internet On Campgrounds
Date: May 13th, 2003
For Release: IMMEDIATE
Billings, Mont. (May 13, 2003) – Campers staying at some Kampgrounds of America locations will soon be surfing the Internet wirelessly from the comfort of their own campsites. KOA, the nation’s largest system of family campgrounds, has partnered with HOTSPOTZZ, one of the nation’s largest providers of wireless Internet “hot spots,” to offer high-speed wireless Wi-Fi access at KOA campgrounds. KOA expects to have nearly 100 of its 500 locations on the HOTSPOTZZ network by the end of 2003.
HOTSPOTZZ allows Wi-Fi enabled computer users high-speed wireless Internet access. HOTSPOTZZ delivers the Internet at a lightning fast 11 megabits per second, many times faster than a traditional dial-up connection.
Customers of KOA Konnect, KOA’s new high-speed dial-up Internet ISP, will have free access to the HOTSPOTZZ network not only from the campground HOTSPOTZZ locations, but all HOTSPOTZZ locations nationwide. KOA Konnect offers customers Web-accelerated dial-up Internet access with the BrowseBlast Accelerator, which gives users up to six times more data throughput than traditional dial-up service. KOA Konnect also has award-winning 24/7 customer service, instant messaging, spam and virus protection and much more.
“Our research shows that more than a quarter of our campers travel with their computers, and many more than that want email access while on the road,” said Jim Rogers, president and CEO of KOA. “The partnership of Kampgrounds of America and HOTSPOTZZ is a perfect solution for campers who want to stay connected.”
HOTSPOTZZ utilizes 802.11b technology backed by high-speed broadband Internet access to connect customers to the Internet. Customers use Wi-Fi-enabled computers, laptops and other mobile devices to connect to the Internet anywhere within the coverage area of the HOTSPOTZZ access point.
“We are thrilled to partner with KOA to offer HOTSPOTZZ high-speed access,” said Henry Smith, HOTSPOTZZ CEO. “HOTSPOTZZ will enable campers to take a relaxing vacation at KOA, while still staying connected.”
The Wi-Fi market is rapidly expanding, with consumers and businesses expected to spend $1.7 billion on Wi-Fi equipment. By 2006, there are expected to be 89,000 public Wi-Fi network access points and more than 99 million users worldwide.
Kampgrounds of America, based in Billings, Montana, is a 41-year-old camping company with nearly 500 family-oriented campgrounds in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Japan.
HOSPOTZZ currently has more than 100 wireless-enabled locations, mostly in hotels, business centers, cafes and restaurants. In March 2003, HOTSPOTZZ teamed with Intel Corporation to promote its services in conjunction with the Intel® Centrino mobile technology for notebook PCs. HOTSPOTZZ is the only company that provides a “converged access platform” that allows customers to use a single account for both dial-up and wireless service. IKANO, the leading provider of private-label Internet services, is the parent company of HOTSPOTZZ, SISNA, auracom/Interhop, and OhioHills.com.
