IKANO Press Releases:

Title: IKANO'S NEW MAILROVER PRODUCT TAKES A BITE OUT OF SPAM AND VIRUS EPIDEMIC
Date:April 13th, 2001
For Release: IMMEDIATE

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- IKANO Communications, a market-leading IP network infrastructure company and provider of branded Internet services, announced today its best-of-breed spam and virus protection, MailRover. IKANO now provides MailRover to its 200 branded Internet Service Providers, enabling them to protect their subscribers against malicious viruses and spam.

The IKANO MailRover product provides critical technology to protect end-users from spam and viruses. Using MailRover, IKANO erects a virtual "mail fence" that protects subscribers through a sophisticated server-based system. One of MailRover's key differentiators is that it automatically sniffs out spam and viruses before they ever hit the subscriber's e-mail box. Plus, MailRover provides true, real-time automated updates of the latest anti-virus rules and engines.

More than 53,000 virus threats exist today, according to the McAfee AVERT Virus Information Library. Over half of all viruses come from email attachments. The need to monitor email messages for dangerous, offensive or confidential content grows every day. The most deadly viruses, able to cripple an email system in minutes, are distributed worldwide via email in a matter of hours.

"IKANO wants to do everything possible to ensure that the email experience provided to its clients' subscribers is safe, trouble-free, reliable, and effective," said Henry Smith, IKANO president and CEO. "In an age where switching ISPs is as easy as clicking a button on a Web page, delivering safe and reliable email service is essential."

Using the updated anti-virus rules from the MailRover Logistics and Operations Center, the MailRover Virus Sniffer identifies infected messages and diverts them to its anti-virus module, which disinfects them using the Symantec AntiVirus Engine. Once the clean messages are returned, they are sent on to the subscriber, along with a notification indicating that they have been disinfected.

IKANO's MailRover Spam Sniffer differentiates itself by accurately identifying spam before it reaches the message delivery system. MailRover doesn't just identify and filter spam, it attracts spam. That means IKANO receives spam before its end-user customers do, providing time to write blocking rules and send them to customer sites just in time to block specific spam attacks.

In addition, IKANO's customizable MailRover Web Client lets end-users view a virtual mailbox containing suspected spam. MailRover's "Doghouse Database" is designed to hold suspected spam that is removed from a user's legitimate email for a discrete time period. The database is also a failsafe for storing email that should not have been removed. For additional information on MailRover, please visit www.mailrover.net.
