IKANO Press Releases:
Title: IKANO UPGRADES MAILROVER ANTI-SPAM AND VIRUS PROTECTION - MailRover Delivers the Next Generation Technology to Fight Spam
Date: December 17th, 2002
For Release: IMMEDIATE
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — IKANO Communications, the leading provider of private-label Internet services, announces a new, more powerful version of its MailRover Anti-Spam & Virus Protection. MailRover 2.0 features a new technology that extends the effectiveness, accuracy and flexibility of MailRover’s spam filtering solution. IKANO currently offers MailRover to its 350 branded Internet Service Provider clients, enabling them to protect their subscribers against malicious viruses and spam.
MailRover 2.0, with Brightmail’s spam and virus protection, powered by SymantecTM, features technology that is faster and more accurate at detecting spam and viruses. Plus, it enables IKANO to write rules to more accurately and proactively protect against spam and viruses. The latest version is built on the foundation of a proven solution used by many of the world’s largest ISPs.
IKANO’s MailRover solution provides critical technology to protect end-users from spam and viruses. Using MailRover, IKANO erects a virtual “mail fence” that protects subscribers through a sophisticated server-based system. One of MailRover’s key differentiators is that it automatically sniffs out spam and viruses before they ever hit the subscriber’s e-mail box. IKANO’s customizable MailRover Web Client lets end-users view a virtual mailbox containing suspected spam. MailRover’s “Doghouse Database” is designed to hold suspected spam that is removed from a user's legitimate email for a discrete time period. Plus, MailRover provides true, real-time automated updates of the latest anti-virus rules and engines.
Spam is an industry-wide epidemic. Unsolicited messages made up 40% of all e-mail on the Internet in October, up from 8% a year ago, estimates Brightmail, the anti-spam software leader. There were 5.3 million spam attacks in October 2002 alone, according to Brightmail.
MailRover 2.0 has a number of features that increase the level of protection provided to subscribers:
MailRover identifies and eliminates spam attacks by removing the randomness inserted by spammers in the header or body of the email message. With this new capability, MailRover can efficiently generate rules against the slightly varied attacks - those with changing spaces or punctuation - that sophisticated spammers use to try to defeat spam filters.
Proactive vs. Reactive: MailRover’s server-side solution stops spam before it enters your network - at the email gateway.
Smart: Technology alone isn't enough. Technicians at the Brightmail Logistics and Operations Center ensure the powerful system is running smoothly, blocking spam 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Fast and Effective: There's nothing faster at finding spam than Brightmail’s network of strategically placed, dedicated email accounts with a statistical reach of over 2500 million mailboxes. As soon as spam hits the Internet, we know about it.
“IKANO wants to do everything possible to ensure that the email experience provided to our clients’ subscribers is safe, trouble-free, reliable, and effective,” said Henry Smith, IKANO president and CEO. “MailRover 2.0 better protects subscribers from the ever-growing flood of spam. In an age where switching ISPs is as easy as clicking a button on a Web page, delivering safe and reliable email service is essential.”
