IKANO Press Releases:
Title: IKANO Kicks off Olympic Ad Campaign:
Data Networking without the Sequins
Date: October 9th, 2001
For Release: IMMEDIATE
While Only Well-trained Athletes Adorn the Ice During the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, But An IKANO Network Engineer Take to the Ice in the Company's New ad Campaign
SALT LAKE CITY - With just over six months to go before the Olympic Flame reaches Salt Lake City, IKANO Communications announces the launch of an ad campaign publicizing its position as the Official Data Networking Services Supplier for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. IKANO is a full-service provider (FSP) featuring Internet Protocol (IP) network infrastructure and branded Internet Services.
The ad features Kevin Smith, an IKANO engineer, on the ice, clad in a colorful sequined blouse, starry tights and ice skates. The ad will appear as a series, with Smith engaged in several skating maneuvers, all of which will lead to his eventual receipt of the "Gold Medal." The ad will appear in several trade, industry and business publications.
"We sought to create something fun and different to publicize our Olympic Winter Games involvement," said Cammi Vanderbeek, corporate communications manager for IKANO. "We wanted something that would draw people in. The series will do that with its humor. You wouldn't believe the positions you can pose an engineer in."
The ads are built around the theme "Data Networking without the Sequins." The company's new campaign spotlights IKANO's capabilities in behind-the-scenes network management. Aside from its behind-the-scenes services for the Olympics, IKANO also provides
behind-the-scenes services for several Fortune 500 companies.
"IKANO views this as a great opportunity to showcase it products, services and capabilities on a global stage," said Vanderbeek. "We are providing all the data networking services and accompanying support for the world's most complex and greatest sporting event."
Just like performing a triple axle, IKANO engineers are required to execute highly technical maneuvers. IKANO is showcasing its abilities as a provider of professional, highly skilled network engineers who are capable of configuring and deploying large quantities of network equipment within a very short time frame. Most impressive is the nonnegotiable deadline that IKANO is faced with. To this point, IKANO's Olympic engineers have successfully met all deadlines and are on track to make the network a success during the Games. Additionally, IKANO is capable of writing custom applications to make network installation, monitoring, and support more effective - all integral parts of its Olympic suppliership.
"We chose IKANO because of its demonstrated expertise in delivering high-performance network infrastructure, built-in redundancy, and experienced staff," said Dave Busser, chief information officer, Salt Lake Olympic Organizing Committee for the Olympic Winter Games of 2002 (SLOC).
IKANO's high-performance Olympic data network will be used to aggregate data and information from Olympic events and then distribute the information to Olympic staff, athletes, officials, the host broadcaster, and SLOC's Web site at www.saltlake2002.com.
Information distributed over the network will include event schedules and real-time results, athlete profiles, weather and performance data. IKANO is currently building, configuring, testing, managing and maintaining a data network capable of supporting all the integral technology functions of the Games. The network will be available at all venues, many of which will stage events simultaneously.
Over 900 switches, 120 routers, 150 T1 lines, 11 T3 lines, 12 network management stations, firewalls, cache engines, a few load balancing servers and nearly two years of preparation and testing assure that the IKANO-supported Olympic data network will deliver a gold medal performance in February 2002 during its 17 days of operation.
"The data network services provided by IKANO will be a critical component in our overall Games technology solution," said Mitt Romney, SLOC president and CEO. "We are confident that IKANO will be able to provide reliable, safe and timely network services under enormous pressure."
