STREAMING MEDIA
|

|
According to a study from Arbitron and Edison Media Research, over half of all US Internet users have now watched or listened to streaming media. Fifty-two percent of US Internet users, or 34 percent of all Americans aged 12 and over, have used streaming media. This is equal to 78 million people.
IKANO's Streaming Media services help you take advantage of this rapidly growing medium by offering real-time data transmission (audio and video) to your subscribers. This is quite different from the time-consuming process of downloading large media files before they can be opened. Streaming starts almost immediately for end-users. The large file is not saved to the viewer's computer. Streaming also provides security for original content because the media cannot be copied to a client hard drive.
Streaming Media Formats
IKANO provides streaming media solutions in the Windows Media format. IKANO has multiple DS3 connections to the Internet that feed our Network Operations Center. Our streaming media servers are hosted on Windows 2000 Servers. IKANO provides robust clustering, load balancing, and additional bandwidth solutions based upon the anticipated demand for your media.
The top players in the streaming media market include: Microsoft's Windows Media Player, Real Networks' Real Player, and Apple's QuickTime. IKANO primarily supports Windows Media but can support all of these formats based upon contractual needs.
Encoding
Encoding is the operation of transferring digital/analog media into a format specific file ready for hosting on a streaming media server. Each server requires that the files you plan to stream be transferred into the format for the server. Specific software is required to perform encoding. IKANO can perform encoding services to assist you with converting VHS, DVD, CD, Cassette Tape, and other media into server-ready formats.
Concurrent Streams
IKANO's Streaming Media services allow several users to access one single streaming media file at the same time. This is especially beneficial to those who plan to do a Webcast, or other on-line event, that will attract hundreds or thousands of users.
